Settled in 1718, New Orleans is steeped in the traditions and foods of its French founders which, over time, has also incorporated elements of Spanish, Italian, African, Native American, Cajun, and Cuban traditions. Different districts offer dramatic sights such as the statue of Jesus Christ standing with upraised arms outside Jackson Square in the French Quarter. The St. Louis Cemetery is hauntingly beautiful.
